How Much Does it Cost to Travel Poland For 5 Days?

On my most recent trip to Poland, I spent a wonderful 5 days in the city of Gdansk. Poland is a very budget-friendly destination—which is one of the main reasons I was able to go for a trip when I had a random week of work! I definitely would have spent a bit more money if I had been in the bigger cities like Warsaw or Krakow, or if I was traveling between cities as opposed to being based in one city. Although that being said, transportation between cities in Poland is generally very affordable, so it might not have made that big of a difference.

Poland is a great place for budget travelers to relax and take it easy. It’s really affordable for those of us lucky enough to have dollars, pounds, or euros, as they still use the Polish Zloty (PLN) as their currency. It’s also one of the cheapest countries I’ve ever been to (the cheapest place I’ve been would most certainly be Lviv or Kyiv in Ukraine). It means you can put your tourist dollars to good use, and put more into the local economy while you’re there. I’ve listed my costs in both pounds (GBP) and dollars (USD) to try to make things easier. Here’s what I spent on my 5-day trip to Poland!

Interested in a breakdown by category? Here’s how much I spent on accommodation, transportation, food/drink, sightseeing, and miscellaneous costs!

Food/Drink: £47.70 // $61.05

Sightseeing: £12.50 // $16

Miscellaneous: £15.85 // $20.25

Poland is an incredibly affordable destination if you’re lucky enough to have dollars, pounds, or euros. It’s consistently one of my best recommendations for a budget destination in Europe. I could have done this trip a lot cheaper if I had committed to cooking more of my own food, and not going out to bars as much. But I came to eat (a lot of pierogi!), so that’s what I did! Again, if I had been traveling to multiple cities, my costs would have been slightly higher. And if I had stayed in a bigger/more popular tourist destination like Warsaw or Krakow, I probably would have paid a bit more for my accommodation. (I loved my stay at Midtown Hostel!)

So how much did my trip actually cost altogether? How much did I actually spend on my 5-day trip to Poland?

GRAND TOTAL: £166.80 // $213

As a budget traveler, I always try to find the best deals. I use Skyscanner to find the cheapest flights. If you’re booking long-distance trains, I recommend Trainline. I use Hostelworld to book hostels, and Booking.com to find the best hotel deals. You can also sign up to and search accommodation through Airbnb here! Considering travel insurance for your trip? World Nomads offers coverage for more than 150 adventure activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage, trip cancellation and more. Wanting to do a tour in Gdansk? Check out these tours!

Poland is a great choice for traveling on a budget. Visiting somewhere like Gdansk, which doesn’t see quite as many tourists as Warsaw or Krakow, makes it even more affordable! I hope this helps anyone planning and budgeting a trip to Poland and Gdansk!

  1. […] Poland is an amazing destination and I have visited 3 times. Krakow is one of my favorite cities in Europe, and I loved my trips to Warsaw. I’ve never written about Wroclaw on the blog, but it’s a fun city with a beautiful old town. My most recent trip to Poland took me to Gdansk, which is definitely one of the best destinations in Poland! So many people just visit Krakow, but I really think Gdansk makes a fantastic city break. 2. Hello!! I am from Britain and I am going to Poland (Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot!) next month. I will be staying with my Polish friends. Thank you for this guide, my friend says not to worry about money because I aim to teach English when I am there but I want to be able to explore without worrying and due to the virus, I haven’t been able to save a lot.. Thank you for this article anyway, it was very helpful!!
